Operation Classsroom 2023

We have provided crucial assistance to public schools in Harlem, P.S. 146 and P.S. 197. There has been a great influx of migrants to New York, and this includes children with dire needs. We have purchased school uniforms, coats, sweaters, snowsuits, hats, gloves, socks and underwear for children of all ages in addition to books and school supplies. Additionally, during Christmas 2022 and 2023, with the help of our community we purchased and donated approximately 500 new toys for the children. We hope to be able to continue this worthy effort to help make the lives of these children a little more comfortable.

The Chrysanthemum 2023

At The Chrysanthemum 2023 we honored Christoper Stratakis, Esq. and Mary Stratakis. Our event was held on November 17 at Guastavino’s in New York City. It was a huge success with approximately 500 attendees.

A contribution of $10,000 was presented that evening to the Child Life Services Program at Memorial Sloane Kettering (MSK), a program that helps young patients and their families develop strategies to cope and adjust to treatment. Our philoptochos will be recognized with a plaque at MSK.

The Chrysanthemum, is our major annual fundraiser, which helps us raise approximately 75% of our annual contributions which total over $100,000.

Mount Sinai Hospital

In May 2023 we awarded $25,000 to Mount Sinai Hospital for the Women’s Heart Health Program. The program founded by cardiologist Dr. Roxana Mehran, MD, Archdiocesan Cathedral Philoptochos member, is specifically designed to screen, assess, and educate women about their level of individual risk through a team of cardiologists, sub-specialists, and researchers with expertise in health issues specific to women.

Spring Luncheon 2023

At our annual Spring Luncheon we gave Mazi Gia To Paidi a contribution of $10,000. This worthy organization was founded in Athens in 1996 with the aim of helping children in Greece. They work diligently for the well-being of more than 30,000 children every year. Its work and programs aim to provide relief to economically vulnerable families, children experiencing disability and illness, and also to provide opportunities to children and youth living in remote and critical areas of the country.

Urban Outreach Center NYC

The Archdiocesan Cathedral Philoptochos Society partners with the Avenue Church NYC (formerly Jan Hus Church) to feed individuals in need. Dating back to the 1970’s and continuing on to today, the Archdiocesen Cathedral Philoptochos was first to start a program providing nourishing meals to our neighborhood community.

Fifty years later, we are proud to continue to support the tradition of serving healthy, restaurant-quality meals to hundreds of food insecure individuals every Tuesday evening, helping to feed approximately 200 people weekly. The Urban Outreach Center NYC generously acknowledged our contributions on their website.
